۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 “And stop them – they are to be questioned.” 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 But the bondmen of Allah, the sincere ones 40 For them is the sustenance known to Us. 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 In gardens of delight, 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 What! when we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then be certainly brought to judgment? 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 So they in their footsteps are rushing. 70 So had many an earlier people gone astray, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
