۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 “Instead of Allah and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In gardens of delight, 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 Are we not then to die 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 This is indeed the mighty triumph, 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
