Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 cast lots, and was among the losers. 141 The fish then swallowed him and he blamed himself. (For not waiting for Allah’s command.) 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 We made a plant of gourd grow up for him. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 So they accepted faith – We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Lo! verily it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 God hath begotten. Verily they are the liars. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And they have made between Him and the jinn a kinship whereas the jinn assuredly know that they are to be brought up 158 Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 for, verily, neither you [blasphemers] nor the objects of your worship 161 can cause anyone to fall prey to your temptation 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 They say, 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allah (true believers of Islamic Monotheism)!" 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 So are they being impatient for Our punishment? 176 When it descends on their courtyards, how terrible that morning will be for those who were warned! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
