The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it descends, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
