S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Suad, I swear by the Quran, full of admonition. 1 Nay! those who disbelieve are in self-exaltation and opposition. 2 How many generations have We destroyed before them who cried (for mercy) when it was too late for escape. 3 It seems strange to the pagans that a man from their own people should come to them as a Prophet. The unbelievers have said, "He is only a lying magician". 4 Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing." 5 The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed. 6 We have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication. 7 Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?” Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation, and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement. 8 Or, have they the treasuries of the Mercy of your Lord, the Almighty, the Giving? 9 Or, is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and that which is in-between the twain? If so, let them ascend by steps. 10 A defeated host are (all) the factions that are there. 11 Before them there have belied the people of Nuh and the 'Aad, and Fir'awn the owner of the stakes. 12 and [the tribe of] Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan]: they all were leagued together, [as it were, in their unbelief:] 13 There was not one but belied the apostles, wherefore justified was My wrath. 14
