We have not created the heavens and earth, and what between them is, for vanity; such is the thought of the unbelievers, wherefore woe unto the unbelievers because of the Fire! 27 Or shall We make those who believe and do righteous deeds as the workers of corruption in the earth, or shall We make the godfearing as the transgressors? 28 A Book We have sent down to thee, Blessed, that men possessed of minds may ponder its signs and so remember. 29 We granted Solomon to David, a blessed servant of Ours and certainly the most repentant person. 30 When they brought fleet-footed chargers in the evening to show him, 31 Therefore Sulaiman said, “I cherish the love of these horses*, out of remembrance of my Lord”; he then ordered them to be raced until they vanished in a curtain out of sight. (To be used in holy war.) 32 Bring them back unto me; and he set about slashing their legs and necks. 33 We surely tried Solomon, and placed another body on his throne. So he turned to God 34 He said, "O my Lord! Forgive me, and grant me a kingdom which, (it may be), suits not another after me: for Thou art the Grantor of Bounties (without measure). 35 Then We made the wind subservient to him; it made his command to run gently wherever he desired, 36 And We subjected to him the evil ones: every builder and diver. 37 and others linked together in fetters. 38 "This is Our gift," (We said to him), "so bestow freely or withhold without reckoning." 39 In Our eyes he certainly has a high position and the best place to return. 40
