Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the manifest Book (that makes things clear, i.e. this Quran). 2 Surely We have made it an Arabic Quran that you may understand. 3 It (the Quran) exists in the original Book with Us which is certainly Most Exalted, full of wisdom and (beyond linguistic structures). 4 Shall We utterly ignore you because ye are a wanton folk? 5 How many a Prophet We sent among the ancients, 6 And never came there a Prophet to them but they used to mock at him. 7 We destroyed the strongest among them in power. The stories of the ancient people have already been mentioned. 8 If thou askest them, 'Who created the heavens and earth?' they will say, 'The All-mighty, the All-knowing created them.' 9 The One Who made the earth a bed for you, and made roads for you in it, so that you may be guided. 10 And He it is who sends down, again and again, waters from the sky in due measure: and [as] We raise therewith dead land to life, even thus will you be brought forth [from the dead]. 11 And He Who created pairs of all things, and made for you of the ships and the cattle what you ride on, 12 So that you may properly mount their backs, and may remember your Lord’s favour when you have mounted them, and say, “Purity is to Him, Who has given this ride in our control, and we did not have the strength for it.” 13 “And indeed we have to return to our Lord.” 14 And they appoint for Him from His bondmen a part! Verily man is an ingrate manifest. 15
