The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 shall call for destruction 11 And [enter to] burn in a Blaze. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And by oath of the moon when it is full. 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
