The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
