When Abraham said to his father and his people, "I boldly renounce what you worship 26 except Him who originated me; and He will guide me. 27 And he made it a word enduring among his posterity; haply so they would return. 28 In fact I gave them and their forefathers the usage of this world until the truth and the Noble Messenger who conveyed the message clearly, came to them. 29 And when the Truth came to them they said: “This is just sorcery and we reject it.” 30 They said, "Why was this Quran not sent down to one of the great men of the two cities?" 31 Is it they who would portion out the Mercy of thy Lord? It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in the life of this world: and We raise some of them above others in ranks, so that some may command work from others. But the Mercy of thy Lord is better than the (wealth) which they amass. 32 Had it not been that all people would become one community (of unbelievers), We might have given those who disbelieve in Ar-Rahman roofs of silver for their dwellings and (silver) stairs for mounting, 33 and (silver) doors to their houses, and couches (of silver) upon which they would recline; 34 and gold [beyond count]. Yet all this would have been nothing but a [brief] enjoyment of life in this world - whereas [happiness in] the life to come awaits the God-conscious with thy Sustainer. 35
