Behold! Abraham said to his father and his people: "I do indeed clear myself of what ye worship: 26 “Except Him Who has created me, for He will soon direct me.” (To my place of migration.) 27 He made this an abiding word among his descendants, in order that they would return. 28 (Even when they began worshipping others than Allah We did not destroy them) but bestowed sustenance on them and on their forefathers until there came to them the Truth and a Messenger who clearly expounded things to them. 29 Yet when the truth had come to them, they said: "This is sorcery. We shall never believe in it." 30 Then they said, "Why this Quran had not been revealed to a man from either of the two great towns". 31 Is it they who distribute the Mercy of your Lord? It is We Who have distributed their livelihood among them in the life of this world, and have raised some above others in rank that some of them may harness others to their service. Your Lord's Mercy is better than all the treasures that they hoard. 32 And were it not that mankind would have become one community, We might well have appointed, for those who disbelieve in the Beneficent, roofs of silver for their houses and stairs (of silver) whereby to mount, 33 with doors to their houses and couches on which to recline; 34 And also adornments of gold. But all this were nothing but conveniences of the present life: The Hereafter, in the sight of thy Lord is for the Righteous. 35
