He who is negligent to remember the Merciful One, to him We assign a satan as his boon companion, 36 Such (evil ones) really hinder them from the Path, but they think that they are being guided aright! 37 till, when he comes to Us, he says, 'Would there had been between me and thee the distance of the two Easts!' An evil comrade! 38 But nothing will avail you on that day, for you were unjust, and you will be partners in the punishment. 39 CANST THOU, perchance, [O Muhammad,] make the deaf hear, or show the right way to the blind or to such as are obviously lost in error? 40 But if We should take you away, still We shall inflict retribution on them; 41 or We show you a part of that which We have promised them, for indeed We have power over them. 42 Therefore, hold fast to that which is revealed to you, indeed, you are on the Straight Path. 43 and, verily, this [revelation] shall indeed become [a source of] eminence for thee and thy people: but in time you all will be called to account [for what you have done with it]. 44 And ask them – did any of the Noble Messengers We sent before you, appoint any other Gods except the Most Gracious, whom they used to worship? 45
