And whoever is averse to the Remembrance of the Most Gracious, We appoint a devil upon him, who stays with him. 36 And most surely they turn them away from the path, and they think that they are guided aright: 37 Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade! 38 It shall not profit you today, since you did evil, that you are partners in the chastisement. 39 (Muhammad), can you make the deaf hear or guide the blind or the one who is clearly in error? 40 We shall revenge them either after your death 41 or We shall show you what We have promised them; for surely We have complete power over them. 42 So hold fast to all that has been revealed to thee: for, behold, thou art on a straight way; 43 And it is undoubtedly an honour for you and your people; and you will soon be questioned. 44 Yet [above all else,] ask any of Our apostles whom We sent forth before thy time whether We have ever allowed that deities other than the Most Gracious be worshipped! 45
