Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HA MIM. 1 By the clear Book, 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
