Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 So the heavens and the earth did not weep for them, and they were not given respite. 29
