Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 yet they turned away from him and said: “This is a well-tutored madman.” 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 “And if you do not believe in me, then have no relation with me.” 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
