Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 The command that We have been sending 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Musa (Moses)], 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
