Have you heard the story of Abraham's honoured guests? 24 When those [heavenly messengers] came unto him and bade him peace, he answered, "[And upon you be] peace!" - [saying to himself,] "They are strangers." 25 He went quietly to his wife and returned to his guests with a fat, roasted calf. 26 He then presented it before them and said, “Do you not eat?” 27 beginning to be afraid of them. But they said, "Don't be afraid"; and they gave him the good news of a son who would be endowed with knowledge. 28 So his wife came screaming, and striking her forehead cried, “What! For a barren old woman?” 29 They said: "Even so says your Lord. Verily, He is the All-Wise, the All-Knower." 30 ۞ Abraham said: “Envoys (of Allah), what is your errand?” 31 They said, 'We have been sent to a people of sinners, 32 that we may unleash a shower of clay-stones 33 marked out in thy Sustainer's sight for [the punishment of] such as have wasted their own selves." 34 So We brought the believers out of that they were in. 35 But We found there but one house of those surrendered (to Allah). 36 We left therein evidence for those who fear the painful torment. 37 There is another sign in Moses: We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 But (Pharaoh) turned back with his Chiefs, and said, "A sorcerer, or one possessed!" 39 Then We seized him and his army and cast them all into the sea: he himself [Pharaoh] was to blame. 40 And also in Ad, when We loosed against them the withering wind 41 which turned everything it approached into dust. 42 And in Thamud's also was a lesson, when it was said unto them: enjoy yourselves for a season. 43 But they revolted against the commandment of their Lord, so the rumbling overtook them while they saw. 44 they could neither stand up straight, nor were they helped. 45 And [thus, too, We destroyed] Noah's people aforetime: for they were iniquitous folk. 46
