Has the story reached you, of the honoured guests [three angels; Jibrael (Gabriel) along with another two] of Ibrahim (Abraham)? 24 When they came to him saying, "Peace be with you," he replied to their greeting in the same manner and said to himself, "These are a strange people". 25 So he turned to his household and brought a fattened calf. 26 And placing it before them said: "Won't you eat?" 27 He began to feel afraid. They said, "Do not be afraid," and then gave him the glad news of the birth of a knowledgeable son. 28 Thereupon his wife approached [the guests] with a loud cry, and struck her face [in astonishment] and exclaimed: "A barren old woman [like me]!" 29 They said, "Thus has said your Lord; indeed, He is the Wise, the Knowing." 30 ۞ He said: what then is your errand! O ye sent ones! 31 They replied: 'We are sent to a sinful nation, 32 to bring down upon them showers of marked lumps of clayy. 33 They are transgressors in the presence of your Lord". 34 So We brought out whoever was in the cities of the believers. 35 But did not find more than a single family of believers. 36 and We left therein a sign for those who fear a painful punishment. 37 And in Moses (too, there is a portent) when We sent him unto Pharaoh with clear warrant, 38 But he turned his back, he and his courtiers, and said, "This is a sorcerer or a madman." 39 Then We laid hold of him and his hosts and flung them into the sea, and he was reproachable. 40 In 'Ad (also is a sign), when We sent a blasting wind against them, 41 It left nothing whatever that it came up against, but reduced it to ruin and rottenness. 42 And also in Thamood, when it was said to them, 'Take your enjoyment for a while!' 43 But they disobeyed the command of their Lord; so they were destroyed by a thunderbolt, and they could only gape, 44 So they were not able to stand, nor could they help themselves. 45 And [We destroyed] the people of Noah before; indeed, they were a people defiantly disobedient. 46
