The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 And the lofty roof. 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 none can avert that. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
