The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the mount 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 And the lofty roof. 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
