The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
