The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
