The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
