The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
