The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the setting star, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
