The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
