The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
