The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 and taught to him 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
