The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
