Seest thou one who turns back, 33 and gives a little, grudgingly? 34 Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see? 35 Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses 36 and of Abraham, who lived up to the trust? 37 Certainly no one will bear the responsibility of the sins of another, 38 And that for man shall be naught save that wherefor he endeavoureth. 39 and that his work is surely seen 40 And only then will he receive his recompense in full; 41 That to thy Lord is the final Goal; 42 and that it is He alone who causes [you] to laugh and to weep; 43 and that it is He who causes to die, and causes to live 44 and that it is He who created pairs, the male and the female, 45 From a drop (of seed) when it is poured forth; 46 and that upon Him is the second creation 47 That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction; 48 that He is the Lord of Sirius. 49 And that He destroyed the former 'A-ad. 50 Thamud, 51 as well as the people of Noah before them - [since,] verily, they all had been most willful in their evildoing and most overweening 52 And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain, 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 Then which of thy Lord's bounties disputest thou? 55 He who warns you is one of the warners of old. 56 The Day of Resurrection draws near, 57 There shall be none besides Allah to remove it. 58 At this discourse then marvel ye? 59 And do you laugh instead of weeping, 60 While ye amuse yourselves? 61 So bow yourselves before God, and serve Him! ۩ 62
