The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
