The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!' 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
