The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
