The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 How [dreadful] was My punishment and My warning! 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
