[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 and they said: "Are we to follow one single mortal, one from among ourselves? In that case, behold, we would certainly sink into error and folly! 24 Has the Reminder been cast upon him alone among us? Nay, rather he is an impudent liar.' 25 Tomorrow shall they know who is the liar, the insolent one. 26 for We are [going to] send the she-camel as a trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 Ah! how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 Verily, We sent against them a violent storm of stones (which destroyed them all), except the family of Lout (Lot), whom We saved in last hour of the night, 34 As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful. 35 And assuredly he had warned them of Our grasp, but: they doubted the warnings. 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 And certainly a lasting chastisement overtook them in the morning. 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 40
