Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the Truth prevailed and their false art was banished. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They replied, "We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
