Thamud (people also) belied the warnings. 23 saying: “Are we to follow a single mortal, one from among ourselves? If we do that, we shall surely be in error and folly. 24 How is it that he has received guidance? In fact, he is the most untruthfull and arrogant person". 25 [We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn. 28 But they called their comrade and he took (a sword) and killed (her). 29 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 30 Lo! We sent upon them one Shout, and they became as the dry twigs (rejected by) the builder of a cattle-fold. 31 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 32 The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. 33 Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn 34 a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful. 35 He had warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warnings. 36 They lusted after his guests, so We put out their eyes (and said): "Taste My punishment and My commination." 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 We said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 39 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 40

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
