The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Merciful 1 Taught the Qur'an, 2 He created the human 3 And taught him to express clearly. 4 The sun and the moon follow a reckoning, 5 The stars and the trees prostrate. 6 And the heaven! He hath elevated it, and He hath set the balance. 7 That you not transgress within the balance. 8 And keep up the balance with equity and do not make the measure deficient. 9 And He appointed the earth for the creatures. 10 Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates); 11 And grain having husks and scented plants. 12 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord, will ye twain belie? 13 He has created man from dry, rotten clay like the potter's, 14 and He created the jinn from smokeless fire. 15 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 16 Lord of both the Easts, and Lord of both the Wests! 17 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? 18 He has made the two seas to flow freely (so that) they meet together: 19 With an interstice between them which they cannot cross. 20 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 21 Out of them come pearls and coral. 22 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 23 And His are the Ships sailing smoothly through the seas, lofty as mountains: 24 Which of your Lord's wonders would you deny? 25
