The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
