The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
