The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and serried acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
