The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
