The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
