The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
