The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
