The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 And by oath of the night when it hides it 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
