The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And shade extended 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
