The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
