The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a host of the ancients 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
